Brodie J. Lobb, LMSW

I believe that embracing your unique queerness opens doors for healing and peace - ones you may have never felt were possible to explore

Howdy! My name is Brodie.

I’m happy you’re here.

Sometimes, the pathways that are offered to us for healing don’t seem to fit who we are. Healing is never one-size-fits-all, though lots of people seem to treat it that way. Others seem to believe that healing only happens for certain people, in certain ways, and only certain types of things count as “healing”. Even when others in our lives have positive intentions when sharing these perspectives, they can often leave us feeling dismissed and make us question if we know what’s best for us.

When we allow ourselves to embrace our queer and trans identities, and any other parts of us that make us “different”, and when we allow them to guide us to our authentic selves - when we Queer our Pathways - we open doors to find greater connection, healing, and joy in our lives. For me, embracing the uniqueness of my personal healing journey has led me on a path of peace, and has helped me understand and accept the parts of myself I’d been taught were unlovable. It taught me to question the stories I’d been taught about myself, others, and the world around me, and to align myself not only with my own individual truth, but also with the liberating truths of other systemically oppressed groups.

I started Queering the Pathways LLC to do exactly that: to provide space for transgender & nonbinary clients to explore and understand themselves and their place in the world more fully, with more curiosity and compassion instead of judgment and shame, and pursue healing on a path that is right for them.

It’s okay if things feel hopeless right now. I can hold on to that hope until you feel you can carry it yourself. I’m here for you through it all.

My office

In addition to virtual telehealth sessions, I see in-person clients at a shared office space through The Practice Collective in Southfield, Michigan. Here are some photos of the spaces we’ll meet in!

PROFESSIONAL BIO

My professional background is in Social Work. I earned my Bachelors in Social Work from Adrian College in 2019, and my Masters in Social Work from the University of Michigan’s School of Social Work in 2020. I currently hold a Clinical LMSW license to practice in Michigan, and a LICSW license to see patients living in Maryland (with more to come!).

When I’m not seeing clients, I’m often engaged in different professional projects with colleagues and local organizations. This includes developing trainings for therapists about best practices when working with trans clients, speaking on panels and guest lecturing in masters-level classes about delivering evidence-based care to trans clients, and advising on policy creation for private practices to streamline support for trans clients, to name a few. You can review my professional experience below:

Personal Bio:

When I’m not seeing clients, you can find me exploring small businesses (especially antique stores!), spending quality time with my partner and friends, and consuming storytelling through new books, movies, and performance art. I take great pride in being a Michigander and having generational roots in Metro Detroit, and I love experiencing the variety of cultures, stories, knowledge, and events that make my home feel special.

I place great value in constantly learning new things, so I spend time reading, going to museums, watching documentaries, and learning about local, state, and national history. I value the soothing and grounding aspects of creating with my hands, so I often have several projects I’m working on or dreaming up. Whether it’s writing, crochet, cross-stitch, woodworking, furniture restoration, or cooking, hands-on self-expression is a balm to my soul during turbulent times.

I also value the restorative aspects of Michigan’s natural beauty, so I also spend time taking weekend trips to explore and experience our Great Lakes, National Forests, and State & Metro Parks (I have a special place in my heart for Michigan’s lighthouses, as you can see below). In fact, many of the pictures featured on this website are from my excursions into nature - many in Michigan, some from traveling to other states. See if you can recognize them!

My current personal goals are to write and publish a novel, raise a puppy, and build as much of my own furniture from scratch as possible!
